Last night at Columbia University’s big 9/11 party, John McCain was asked if he’d consider appointing Barack Obama to his cabinet. Amid much laughter, the Republican brightly answered “Yes!” It was the perfect encapsulation of the McCain campaign strategy: tell a bald-faced lie that everyone knows is a lie and keep smiling, because you’re going to get away with it.
