Defense Rests in Snipes Money Trial

WAITING TO EXHALE Snipes (Photo: Getty Images) Just three days after the prosecution finished laying out its case against Wesley Snipes in his tax-evasion trial, the swole thespian's defense team rested its case this morning without calling a single witness.

"The government didn't make its case," says Snipes attorney Robert Bernhoft, who contends that the prosecution failed in its burden to prove that Snipes defrauded the government of millions of dollars. "We could have put on a big show, but we don't do that. We're not going to waste the jury's time," Bernhoft said. "There were a lot of witnesses ready to step up to testify on his behalf." Those potential witnesses included Sylvester Stallone, Muhammad Ali, and Spike Lee, among other stars who seemingly have insight into Snipes' financial records.
