SWISS CHEESE Merkel, Gabriel (inset) Park City, Utah, is so last week. Anyone who's anyone is in Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum, baby. The Sundance Film Festival may have Zooey Deschanel and Jared Leto, but Davos has Germany's grope-worthy Chancellor Angela Merkel and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Here are some headlines that are heating up the Swiss Alps!

• Murdoch heir apparent stays put: James Murdoch, his father Rupert's favored successor at News Corp. (this week, anyway) will not move to New York but stay in Australia, where he runs cable company BSkyB.

• Homeland Security chief employs unfortunate Orientalist metaphor: Speaking about the risks of terrorists getting their hands on nukes, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says: "You can't put that genie back in the bottle once a weapon of mass destruction or a nuclear bomb gets into the hands of a terrorist."

• What do you feed the leaders of government, business, and media?: One word: Bündnerfleisch.

• Who says there aren't stars at Davos?: Peter Gabriel, onetime singer for Genesis and Lloyd Dobler romantic prop, advocates for human rights, saying, "From my own point of view, I would love to see an integration between the world economic forum and the world social forum, but I think that's an unlikely dream."
