Conspiracy buffs, get ready to rumble! Scapegoat Scooter Libby is now being used as the excuse for Alberto Gonzalez's former counsel and White House liaison Monica Goodling's vow to plead the Fifth at her upcoming congressional testimony about the U.S. attorney firings. It's an unprecedented move for someone in her position.

Lying, as Dick Cheney's former chief of staff did to both a grand jury and U.S. attorney Patrick Fitzgerald about his conversations with journalists regarding Valerie Plame, is just too tempting, according to Goodling's attorney's logic. "Ms. Goodling will not answer questions before the Committee or its staff under these circumstances. The potential for legal jeopardy for Ms. Goodling from even her most truthful and accurate testimony under these circumstances is very real. One need look no further than the recent circumstances and proceedings involving Lewis Libby."
