BLOOD ON THE TRAIL Cheeks, Kwame Looks like Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick may have more than constituents and prison staff to answer to should he be found guilty of 1) perjuring himself to a grand jury in a whistle-blowing suit and related to an alleged affair with his onetime Chief of Staff Christine Beatty, and 2) maybe assaulting a deputy sheriff. Politico is reporting on the effect his problems are having on his mother, Carloyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, a sitting congresswoman currently up for re-election in Michigan, and who is presently being bombarded by opponents over her son's many transgressions. Actually, Kwame might prefer the safety of prison should his mom lose her seat: she's frightening, and rivals are making the easy point.
