D&G Scandal A New Publicist's Dream or Nightmare?

You want a scandal with legs? Dolce & Gabbana will give you that scandal. As you might have heard (free sub. req.), the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in the UK has banned Dolce & Gabbana's Fall/Winter '06 ads quoting "glorification of crime and knife-violence"—

it's too late to clutch pearls about the fall ads anyway, now that the season is over and didn't really glorify anything to U.S. mags except the powers of Photoshop.

The entire shebang about the naughty ads may also sound pointless to desensitized style consumers used to designers' shock tactics. But it's a big deal to Dolce & Gabbana's publicist, Amy Schmitt, who coincidently was assigned the top PR position in the company this week. (Amy, was that you complaining to the ASA 157 times? Any press is good press, right?) Schmitt didn't immediately return calls for comment.
