Do you fantasize about giving Karl Rove an atomic wedgie? If so, Robert Draper's new book about the Bush White House, Dead Certain, is for you! It details delicious tales of the former chief adviser being swatted back down to the nerd patrol ranks from whence he came at the hand of President Bush. You may already know about the POTUS's fondness for calling Karl "turd-blossom." But Draper adds to the historiography of Dubya's dork-bashing ways with the story of a 1999 meeting during which Bush shut Rove up by telling him to go "hang up my jacket." According to Draper, "The room fell silent and Rove put the coat on the rack."

The White House's resident MC apparently didn't handle such treatment well. Politico's review notes that Rove comes off in Dead Certain as frequently "transmuting the abuse he got from Bush onto his staff, reporters, and other innocent parties." These reports are evocative of Bush's relationship with former Chief of Staff Andy Card whom Bush was said to "sometimes order Card around in a tone that suggests he's talking to a servant." The book adds new detail to the backroom dynamics of a White House operation that, Draper argues, had "collapsed" by 2006 and was routinely addled by internecine battles between Rove and others top staff members.
