We all know why Bloomberg LP is constantly denying promotions and care to its pregnant lady workers (ALLEGEDLY)—it’s because all companies know that the more babies a woman has, the less likely she is to remain an employee. So, you know, why bother promoting the lasses? (Meanwhile, there are other companies, like some weekly newspapers, that automatically give raises to the men who get married or spawn. Charmed!) Well, we know that a full quarter of employed women leave the workplace after one baby—and we know that with each baby, that number goes up. And in the UK, “about 85 percent of women have full-time jobs before they have babies, but after they give birth the figure falls to just 34 percent of those with pre-school children.” Quick, everyone stop and go reread your Caitlin Flanagan—because, while the mommy wars have been on the backburner while our country sorts out this whole “new president” thing, the news comes in that a whopping 104 whole U.S. corporations have daycare now!
