Sunday Rose, Levi Alves Explained

Coldplay's Chris Martin may not give a rat's ass what you think of his kids' weird names, but it turns out Nicole Kidman's a tad more conciliatory about the matter. Quizzed over the unusual choice of Sunday Rose, Nicole Kidman's father Antony explained that the name was his suggestion.

Antony Kidman and his wife Janelle forwarded the name, they said, because they were inspired by the turn of the century Austrialian socialite Sunday Reed. Reed, a boho babe for her time, was notorious for her extramarital affair with the famous artist Sidney Nolan and passed her later years by his side. In 1981, after his death, she committed suicide.

Come to think of it, Reed's biography sounds rather like the plot of some dreary Nicole Kidman flick, in which, no doubt, she'd have to wear another prosthetic nose to earn an Oscar nod. Still, a little grim for a newborn, no?

Yesterday was also marked by an announcement from surf dude Matthew McConaughey that his son's name, Levi Alves, was inspired by the Bible, Levi being an alternative name for the apostle Matthew.

Shockingly, no announcement was forthcoming from Jamie Lynn Spears as to the literary, religious, or artistic provenance of the name Maddie Briann, y'all.

also, "levi alves" is one of those things that looks disturbingly like a palindrome, but isn't. which would be endlessly absorbing to meditate on if you were stoned and like, ran out of bongos or something.
