Please Welcome New Staffer Moe Tkacik

moe.jpg
It's our incredible good fortune to announce that Moe "Maureen" Tkacik, lately of ladysite Jezebel, will be joining Radaronline.com as Senior Writer on August 18th. As Radar Editor in Chief Maer Roshan noted in an e-mail to the staff, Moe will "bring her unique style and voice to a wide variety of topics from entertainment to politics, business and economy to world affairs. I'm confident that her strong reporting experience and her uncanny ability to analyze trends and events will allow the site to offer a broader perspective on pop, politics, scandal, and style." As I'm noting right now, it will be thrilling to welcome a great writer with a singular brand of analysis who will somehow make my own drinking seem moderate. I'm very excited about this, as those of you who read this site should also be.

1st ZOMG.

Hey, maybe it's about time I ranked this site's bookmark above that other site's bookmark. (No, not that site, the OTHER site.)

Posted by: brianvan on July 22, 2008 12:46 AM

wow... To be frank with you.. I didn't know her.. but now I think she's honorabls..

Posted by: mi hyeon on July 22, 2008 2:08 AM

Might want to ask Moe to double check her nether regions before coming to the office. I seem to recall she can get a little absent-minded where feminine (hello, feminism?) products are concerned.

Welcome, Moe. You are bound to catch a fair amount of ribbing, but my mind is open. We can get street smart together.

Now I will have to add this cite to my list. She was my favorite, I am going to miss her on Jezebel though. It is kind of like Rosie O'Donnell leaving the View.

Welcome, Moe!
To help ya feel more welcome: Rape! Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-HA-Ha-HA

Posted by: lillyblue on July 22, 2008 7:21 AM

Moe AND newtojezebel?!?! Oh Balk, you are good to us.

Posted by: jolie on July 22, 2008 7:26 AM

Radar should only hire alcoholic writers, then you can market yourselves as true throwbacks to journalism's golden age. I'll do the ad campaign for you, flat fee.

Posted by: copyranter on July 22, 2008 8:26 AM

Oops. I got a little too excited reading this.

Posted by: KarenUhOh on July 22, 2008 9:11 AM

I can't wait to see which staffer she fucks on the sofa first!

Posted by: madre de dios on July 22, 2008 9:52 AM

Well, then. Registration is now necessary. I would not be able to do without epic-ass, loopy, clause laden yet grammatically correct sentences for very long. And somewhere along the line, everybody's gonna be pissed as hell at Moe. She'll need a defender to ask "What do you expect? Moe is always Moe."

Don't mind me. I'm mostly silent. Welcome, Moe.

Posted by: Anonymous Secs on July 22, 2008 9:57 AM

Do you guys need a Curly?

Posted by: KarenUhOh on July 22, 2008 10:00 AM

I'm the anti-Curly, so probably.

Posted by: Balk on July 22, 2008 10:15 AM

Well damn, Jez has had all of my reader time up til now, but I see I will have to start reading this as well.
Congrats, Moe- if this means you leave Jez entirely, you will be sorely missed.

Posted by: SisterMaryMartha on July 22, 2008 10:26 AM

I've already made the jump from Jezebel. Glad to see Moe's done the same.

Posted by: BowlingForDollars on July 22, 2008 10:28 AM

Excellent. I knew a Great Jezebel Bloodlet was in the works, and I'm glad to see Moe is the first to flee the sinking ship.

Posted by: Pandaface on July 22, 2008 11:20 AM

ug. i'm glad she's leaving Jezebel, her "unique style and voice" = half-baked pseudoanalysis of legitimate issues. she's pretty bad, at least as far as business/economy/politics is concerned.

Posted by: un1mpressed on July 22, 2008 11:28 AM

Man, you're a tough sell. What DOES 1mpress you?

Posted by: Balk on July 22, 2008 12:01 PM

Quality impresses me. The ability to write a thoughtful, coherent post about a tough issue impresses me. Jez has plenty of quality contributors - Dodai's awesome, Megan's usually quite good. At very least, they are coherent. Moe's sloppy. The topics she choses to address are quality issues that merit attention, but her tone is childish and she just seems poorly informed - LOLZ I AM LIKE SO DRUNK ALSO BEN BERNANKE IS SOOO RETARDED CAN YOU BELIEVE HIM?? OMG!!!

Many Jez readers gave similar criticisms in the thread where Ana addressed "Thinking & Drinking".

Also, it's the elephant in the post, so I'll ask - was she encouraged to leave after the T&D debacle, or is the timing coincidental?

Posted by: un1mpressed on July 22, 2008 12:17 PM

Fully-baked pseudoanalysis. With cream cheese.

Posted by: KarenUhOh on July 22, 2008 12:18 PM

I'm glad to see Moe here! And I found another great way to fill time at work and home.

As for the vitriol spilling over from Jezebel - The dead horse, U iz beating it wrong.

Posted by: Trashtastic on July 22, 2008 12:37 PM

Congratulations Moe. I've always enjoyed your writing and this will surely be a better fit for you.

Posted by: doolittle on July 22, 2008 12:43 PM

un1mpressed: No, this has been in the works for quite some time.

Posted by: Balk on July 22, 2008 12:48 PM

I like Moe so congrats. Please execute any commenter that says "totes" though. Be strong from the start.

Posted by: Nancy Botwin on July 22, 2008 1:28 PM

My elephant is bigger than yours is! "Encouraged to leave" would require something resembling ladyballs, and I'm just not sure those assumed to do the encouraging are familiar with such cumbersome, swinging things.

Posted by: SBJ on July 22, 2008 2:08 PM

i don't pay close enough attention to jezebel to be able to distinctly rate its individual contributors, but i know that moe has been major presence on the site and...ugh.

i will keep an open mind -- maybe moe's stuff here will be more in the radar mold. all i can say is, i miss the vintage gawker voice -- i'm not ready for this renaissance of earnestness, righteousness and *feelings* that jezebel represents. radar, i thought, was holding out pretty well against that surge.

please continue. please. i don't want to read 6 raw honest paragraphs about your passion for obama. i want the glib, whimsically cruel one-liners that i can relate to.

and in case you were courting female readers, well, i am. so there.

ok, whatever. /rant.

Posted by: sorryButJezebelSucks on July 22, 2008 2:28 PM

Really???

I used to read Jezebel, and I would think: "gosh, this Moe is terrible! Maybe they hired her without knowing how bad she'd be. I guess her inflammatory (note: controversial =/= quality) posts get a ton of pageviews and they're stuck with her now."

I quit reading Jezebel.

I used to read Radar, and I would think: "gosh, this site and magazine are great! The features are hilarious and high quality, and even the "Fresh Intelligence" is just that, intelligent. Radar is as snarkily hilarious as Gawker, with some real substance to back it up!"

I hope I don't have to quit reading Radar.

Posted by: Jamie Lynn Snears on July 22, 2008 3:30 PM

"No, this has been in the works for quite some time."
Posted by: Balk on July 22, 2008 12:48 PM

Amazing. Congratulations, Moe.

Posted by: MaggieShnayerson on July 22, 2008 3:55 PM

well, so what! she's not like ... tall.

Posted by: gray on July 22, 2008 9:00 PM

Oh no.......and I loved Radar and will continue to do so until Aug 18. "un1mpressed" stated the reasons above, fairly and without any of the malice that Moe brings in her wake. Signed, Very Sad.

Posted by: MKM510 on July 22, 2008 9:15 PM

Goddamn, Balk - fire me twice and call me Sheila, you magnificent bastard. I don't think I have enough ice cold Gawker memes in the fridge for this. I might have to run to the store.

Posted by: Hez on July 22, 2008 9:30 PM

Wow, well my bookmarks are incredibly incestuous now. Ahh, journalism..such a large pool of voices.

Posted by: punctiliouspig on July 22, 2008 9:44 PM

I don't think Moe has ever met a run-on sentence she didn't like (and try to drink.) Won't be reading.

Posted by: saracrewe on July 23, 2008 2:20 PM

Ah, the memories. The reminders of what we had and lost.
