Anonymous' Creepy New Get-Up

noface_fresh.jpg
Evidently, people wearing these feature-blurring, flesh-colored masks (or are they stockings? We can't really tell) have been popping up at various high-profile events around London, from Wimbledon to Elton John's White Tie and Tiara Ball. They just sort of walk around without saying anything so know one knows who they are or what they're doing, but it's likely a bit of performance art from the folks over at Anonymous. The group is just starting to gain notoriety in the UK, so it makes sense that they'd be out generating publicity in London; they're also gearing up for another global Scientology protest on July 12.

We kind of preferred the old Guy Fawkes masks from V for Vendetta, though maybe Anonymous had to switch gears because Scientologists keep trying to buy 'em all up.

It's not Anonymous -- it'sa viral marketing bit for "Lotus" automobiles -- but thanks for mentioning our campaign against the Scientology cult! Yes, we will have another worldwide action on July 12. Readers, please come! For more information: http://www.youfoundthecard.com and http://www.enturbulation.org

*chuckle*

It warms my heart to see the press wonder if any new "anonymous" looking face might be the next iteration of Anonymous' campaign of outing the abuses of scientology. It tells me the word is getting out there.

Nope. Wasn't us in this case.

Or was it? [insert spooky music]

Yeah, as the above poster's said, that's not us. We've made a conscious effort to balance "we don't want to scare people" with "we need masks for our own protection", and those face masks are definitely kind of unnerving while we're trying to be friendly/accessible.

It's Lotus cars or whatever--non Lotus brands mean you don't get a face, but if you're wearing a tag with the Lotus brand (ie, you own a Lotus car), you can keep your face. It's a bit more evident in the other image, where there's two faceless + one tagged and faced.

But we do like the attention, and we're happy to be on your minds! ^_^
