< BACK TO Fresh Intelligence Suze Orman Gets an "F" On Her Credit Report Card
Handy advice, to be sure, but what Orman neglects to disclose to the readers of O is that she actually has a business partnership with myFICO.com: the site's homepage has a direct link to her "Suze Orman FICO Kit Platinum" package, which can be yours for only $49.95 (a "FICO Kit" link from her website also takes you to myFICO.com). Of course, federal law now mandates that you are entitled to request a credit file disclosure once every 12 months for free, which makes Orman's advice not particularly financially prudent to anyone to anyone but herself. Being a corporate shill, though, does admittedly help pay the bills. Orman's rep did not return a request for comment.
I'm not a fan of hers, and agree that she should disclose her relationship with the website, but this posting implies that there is no difference between a "credit file" and FICO scores, which is incorrect. Federal law only requires that consumers be able to get a free credit report once per year from each of the credit reporting agencies, but this law does *not* cover FICO scores, which each of these agencies can calculate in a different way, and are sold as separate products. I'm assuming it's short for Susan Posted by: zaydoun on June 4, 2008 10:56 AM That would be the fault of O magazine. Suze makes this connection very clear on her CNBC program every week.
