Was Vito Fossella Drinking For Two?

FATHER OF THE YEAR? Fossella
The story keeps getting more interesting for embattled Rep. Vito Fossella (R-NY). The Staten Island congressman, whose recent DUI in Virginia came after a night of partying with an overserved pal, is now facing questions about his "friend" Laura Fay, the "mystery woman" he called to spring him from the can. Specifically, the main query is: Did Vito put a baby in her tummy three years ago?

The married Fossella "implied to suburban D.C. cops that Fay's 3-year-old was his" when they pulled him over, reports the Daily News. For her part, Fay "has been frantically phoning friends and relatives, urging them not to talk to the media about the identity of her baby's daddy," according to the New York Post. The question of paternity is a big one: A "top state Republican" tells the paper that "He's not going to be able to win re-election if he is the father." Because that's how they play it out on Staten Island: You knock a bunch back and get behind the wheel, hey, it happens. Knock up a woman who isn't your wife? It's back to practicing law in Great Kills for you.
