The History of Brangelina Weddings

Though we trust Star's reporting about as far as we can throw Candace Trunzo, we were a little excited over the weekend when it came out with its Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie getting hitched in the Big Easy story and, um, Us Weekly, the self-appointed watchmen of the weeklies, had to go and spoil our fun by calling the story a crock of BS.

Thing is, we've developed a kind of exercise routine around hauling out the latest rumors of an impending marriage every few weeks.

Just last week, In Touch had a "Wedding of the Century Cover," claiming that the Brad and Ange were planning to wed on buddy Paul Allen's $200 million yacht, The Octopus. According to the Bauer bunch we can hold off on that toast for a couple of months, cuz Brangie wants to wait until after the twins (she's double knocked up—all mags reporting) are born.

And before Star married the couple without mentioning it to the bride and groom (and with the possible assistance of pranky pants Ashton Kutcher, who apparently must now be called for a fact check every time something gossip-worthy happens), they were claiming that wedding bells were imminent back January 2007, because it was Angie's mother, Marchelene Bertrand's, dying wish that her daughter get married for the third time.

Life & Style diligently tried to break Brangelina up for much of 2007, but ultimately, they agreed that Marcheline wanted to see their union made legit, and set the couple up for Bahamian summer wedding on the same beach where Angie spread mom's ashes.

And last July, the National EnquirerStar's sister pub that spends a good chunk of time explaining that, no, they don't cover aliens, unless you count Suri Cruise—claimed that Jolie and Pitt had just inked a $220 million prenup in preparation for an April wedding in Italy, or maybe it was May in Cambodia; they weren't quite sure.

OK!, who went to work debunking this latest Star-fueled wedding report, had a 2006 "fairytale" Johannesburg wedding planned for the couple, complete with African Music and Oprah Winfrey. Us poo-pooed that as well.

Meanwhile OK!'s British counterpart reported in May 2007 that Brangie had bought a place in the Dominican Republic for an Easter wedding. "Pax and Maddox are old enough to be page boys and it's always been Angie's dream that this wedding will be a true family affair," their source added—and while said source was wrong, wrong, wrong, that English accent just made it sound so much more charming. Last month the mag claimed it's a summer wedding is in the works, now either in France or New Orleans, but there's a patch of trouble with Brad's mum (British OK!), who still loves Brad's ex, Jen Aniston.

Speaking of which, the first player to this game way back in December of 2005, when people were still wearing "Team Aniston" T-shirts, was Us Weekly, the first to report that Brad Pitt was checking out Cartier wedding rings for Ms. Jolie. Which makes us wonder who watches the watchmen?
