An article yesterday on right-wing propaganda site Newsmax asserted that, "Contrary to Senator Barack Obama's claim that he never heard his pastor Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. preach hatred of America, Obama was in the pews last July 22 when the minister blamed the 'white arrogance' of America's Caucasian majority for the world's suffering, especially the oppression of blacks." This was picked up and reported unquestioningly by Times columnist Bill Kristol in a piece that ran today. Only one problem:
"[A] copy of Obama's schedule viewed by FOX News as well as video of Obama speaking appear to place him in Miami that day at a convention of the National Council of La Raza."
While some of the more ardent Obama supporters have been known to argue that their candidate has almost mystical powers, it still seems something of a stretch to suggest that the man could be in two places at the same time. Kristol was forced to issue a correction. Newsmax isn't quite ready to deny Obama's divinity just yet, noting that "[t]he church holds services three times every Sunday at 7:30 and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Central time... both the early morning and evening service allowed Sen. Obama to attend the service and still give a speech in Miami."
So they're saying the guy can fly from Illinois to Florida, deliver a speech, and sit through a racist screed back in his home state all on the same day. Isn't that the kind of can-do multitasking we want from a president?
