Mexicans To Emos: We'll Give You Something To Cry About

Unlike Americans, who prefer our persecuted minorities to have different skin colors or sexual preferences or genitalia, our Mexican neighbors have no problem lashing out at people just for being annoying. Case in point: the wave of violence directed at emo kids sweeping the country.

The emo-bashing movement, which originated on message boards of like-minded emo haters, involves disparate groups (punks, goth kids, metal heads, soccer hooligans) united by their hatred of bangs, tight pants, self-mutilation, and Morrissey. They have converged on the emos in town squares, at schools, and at concerts, thirsty for their sad, straight-edge blood. But what exactly is fueling their hatred?

According to some it's the anti-fun elements of emo culture. Others say it's rebellion against an oppressive government. And still others are pretty sure that it's just because emo-kids suck ass.

Whatever the reasons, Mexicans are not alone in their fight. The attacks have already spread to other emo-hating countries like Chile but, unfortunately, have yet to surface here in the United States. Which raises the question, why the hell not? Surely if Mexicans will do the jobs that Americans are too proud to do, they can come over and do the jobs they're already doing at home.

I won't pretend to know why the Mexican people have taken to hating the emo trend, but I will tell you what I hate about it and just maybe its for the same reason. Its a trend that promotes depression and sadness, and how is that in any way good? You just can't take yourself that seriously, its just no fun. They are over dramatic little cry babies and they need to get over themselves. While I find the emo trend extremely annoying, everybody has the right to look like an idiot if they so and nobody deserves to be treated like that. I'am not sure what rights the Mexican people have, but if its causing them so much grief maybe they should just cut there losses.

So I posted on this elsewhere, but I'm curious. Maybe in my thirty-something state I'm past the point of commenting, but this just seems odd-in that rising up against emo is like rising up against McDonalds or Colgate. For the most part, didn't emo start out being co-opted? Is there really a difference between (insert current hot emo band here) and the Pussycat Dolls? It's not like punk, for example, where its origination occurred wherein individuals actually represented an aesthetic the rest of society shunned/didn't understand/found disturbing.

I'm pretty sure anyone's grandmother, upon hearing virtually any emo song, would instantly think of any number of bad TV promos, multiple commercials, etc. And upon looking at one of these individuals, might, at best, consider them a bit fey.

Am I wrong?

Oh, and Morrissey is most assuredly not emo, please don't include him amongst the whiners.

And everyone knows Mexicans love Morrissey. For some reason.

Damn it, people don't know anything! Emo is a STATE OF MIND. In fact, everyone's an emo, but they repress their emo-ness because its not accepted in our society. We should be ashamed of ourselves. We need to be honest and truthful too.
