Joe Francis Back on the Prowl, At Least 'Till Next Sentence

A friendly heads up to Florida Spring Break coeds: allegedly rapey "Girls Gone Wild" founder Joe Francis is headed to an uber-cheesy megaclub near you!

Well, sort of. After posting a bail of $1.5 million to get himself out of the Nevada jail he'd been sitting in for almost the past year, Meatstick Joe is back up in his old Panama City, Florida, stomping grounds today. Unfortunately, it's to face leftover charges for allegedly filming two underage girls topless in a seedy motel back in 2003.

The road back to Florida for Francis, who wrote in an email to friends after being released from prison in Reno that "in the same way you were there for me in my time of need, I will be there for you," has been 11 months in the making. Francis had initially posted bail for the criminal charges stemming from the 2003 allegations, but found himself in jail after being charged with contempt of court in a separate-but-related civil lawsuit. While serving out that 35-day sentence, however, he had his bail from the criminal case revoked after smuggling drugs and anti-anxiety meds into his cell. At the same time, he was also indicted by a federal grand jury in Nevada for allegedly claiming more than $20 million in phony deductions. He was immediately extradited to a Reno prison but couldn't post bail there without being re-arrested and sent back to Florida. Quite the legal conundrum!

Reno judges had denied Francis' request to post bail without fear of extradition to Florida (most recently last week), but authorities in Florida said he could be released without threat of being re-jailed on Monday. Still, even if he beats the four felony and two misdemeanor charges outstanding in Florida, Francis isn't exactly looking at a carefree spring of giving away free T-shirts to 18-year-old girls who look at his camera just like that; his Nevada tax evasion trial, in which he faces 10 years in prison if convicted, is set to begin in August.
