Now, Chericho is speaking out, telling Radar in an e-mail that the woman at the center of the mess that led to his firing, a "Miss Smarty Shoes," has a history of mental instability, and that he's not entirely ruled out the possibility of taking legal action against her.
Cherico's unrepentant womanizing had long drawn the ire of the Glamour (and Jezebel) readership, though the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back was a post he wrote about Miss Smarty Shoes. It seems the woman in question went out of her way to invite Cherico to a Foo Fighters concert in L.A., and Cherico showed his gratitude by accusing her of having herpes and writing a note to some other girl he met at the show to get in touch with him via his blog. Smarty Shoes responded in kind by posting a 3,000-plus-word opus on her own blog (since deleted but preserved for posterity by Jezebel) in which she accuses Cherico of being, among more actionable offenses, a "fucking idiot," a drunk driver, a man who once cut a date short to make a drug deal, and, perhaps worst of all, a terrible lay. Readers mostly sided with Smarty Shoes in the comments (Glamour has unfortunately deleted most of the profane ones), and Cherico was sent packing the next day.
All of which has made Chercio very sad! (Not to mention tenuously employed at his real job, teaching high school English). "It's really upsetting that this girl soured the experience for me," he tells Radar in an e-mail message. "I'm still very upset and in shock over the whole thing. Believe me, I could say some things about her that would blow everyone away. But despite it all, I will at least TRY to be a gentleman this time around."
Cherico also adds that he's debating whether he should take legal action against Smarty Shoes for the public smackdown she gave him, as was suggested by "several lawyers. But given her mental history, I feel she could potentially be a danger to me, my loved ones, and, ultimately, herself."
Anyway, Cherico just wants you to understand that he's human! "I never claimed to be a saint. I've never pretended to be someone I'm not. I'm a single guy with some issues and a lot to learn. So be it. I kind of thought that's what made my blog interesting? I don't have a clean slate, dude, I'm human. But I have a lot of heart and no one can slam me on that."
