If You Actually Care Who Plays Barack Obama On SNL You Should Be Forcibly Sterilized

HAT AND CATTLE Real Obama (Photo: Matthew C. Wright)
One of the occupational hazards of sifting through a massive number of news sources to get a sense of what's going on in popular culture is the occasional sputtering, inchoate rage that rises up within you when you see the same idiot story in multiple locations being treated as if it is actually A) news, B) relevant to any single person's life, or C) worth the time anyone took to write it, read it, or even give the matter a second's worth of thought. So I just want to share something with you: It doesn't make a damn bit of difference whoever the hell winds up playing Barack Obama on Saturday Night Live, and anyone who tells you otherwise is either complicit in a poorly designed publicity campaign for a show that hasn't had any effect on popular discourse since Chris Farley was still snorting bacon double-cheeseburgers through his ass for the amusement of Chicago-area pub dwellers OR is lying to you because they think you lack the critical faculties to understand that this is a meaningless piece of sub-cultural jetsam that doesn't merit the inches of both real and virtual ink it has already received. Seriously. ENOUGH.

Sorry. There's something in the air today, right?

Is Obama the American Mandela? Obama brings a message of hope and change to a country at the crossroads. It is choice between the past and the future. But is Obama the American Mandela who could inspire Americans to a better future at home? And a future where America takes it rightful place at the global table? Is he the one? The question of whether Obama is the American Mandela is discussed in my blog Angry African on the Loose at http://angryafrican.wordpress.com/2008/02/20/is-obama-the-american-mandela/

Sure, but who do you think should play him on SNL?

Who's that black guy on the show -- the one that's so funny and usually plays the black guys? I think it should be him!

Dear AngryAfrican,
I hate to break it to but America already has a place at the "global table". Unfortunately we have terrible manners. Also...I refuse to visit your blog until I'm assured that you are, indeed, both angry and african. Thank you.

I bet Tracey Morgan would do a great Barack Obama. Or Keenan Thompson--he was great as Colin Powell! Ooh, or there's Wayne Brady! Is Tim Meadows still performing? Someone call his agent! OMG! Wait, I've got it!!!! COLIN POWELL SHOULD PLAY BARACK OBAMA!!!!!!11!!!!111 Not because he's black, I just think they look similar.

I honestly can't imagine who might have inspired this rant of yours.

That last comment was all supposed to be in hypertext but apparently your comments tool doesn't allow it. Sigh.

Or what about Alec Baldwin?

Posted by: yoko on February 22, 2008 12:51 PM

Tracy Morgan: too ghetto
Keenan Thompson: too round (but funny as hell)
Collin opwell: umm... not funny and too old (he could play Barak's dad though)
Alex Baldwin: too black
Wayne Brady: too white (ouch!)
Tim Meadows: Perfect !...if he used stilts

Oops! I meant "Colin Powell".
