Look out L.A.: Marion “Suge” Knight, founder and CEO of Death Row records (a.k.a. Tha Row), was quietly released from parole a month ago. The SUV-sized rap magnate, who's been in and out of jail since1992 for various criminal offenses and parole violations, finally managed to string together three solid months of good behavior and shrug off his bling-less ankle bracelet and un-gangsta curfew on April 24. But whether Suge will turn sweet still remains to be seen. Just before his release, a spy overheard the ex-con asking one of his overworked attorneys at an L.A. restaurant,“When are you gonna stop pretending that you've done this or that legal work for me? When's it gonna be done?”

When the lawyer responded that he was still waiting to receive $100,000 in fees, Suge lowered his gaze and growled, “My parole is up soon, and then my friends are my friends, and those who ain’t...” before trailing off ominously. Knight has long had close ties to the Compton-based Mob Piru Bloods street gang (he once employed scores of them as bodyguards), and was jailed on a parole violation in 2002 for associating with a known gang member. But now, according to Margot Bach of the California Dept. of Corrections, Suge is free to hang with anyone he chooses. Asked whether it had any plans to monitor the newly footloose Knight, a spokeswoman for the L.A. County D.A.’s office said that since there are no pending cases against the mogul, police would let sleeping dogs lie. We can think of at least one Dogg who may have trouble sleeping.
