Ledger's masseuse is now known to have called Mary-Kate Olsen in California prior to calling 911, which she did once she realized how serious the situation was. "I'm not going to speculate on why 911 was not called first," said Paul J. Browne, the police department's chief spokesman. Yesterday's rumor that a $20 bill found on Ledger's body was coated with cocaine has been proven to be incorrect, reaffirming initial reports that no illegal drugs were found in the apartment.
Ledger's body was released by the coroner to the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home on the Upper East Side; memorial arrangements have not yet been announced. It could be another six to nine days until the cause of death is known.
Last night, Ledger's former fiancé, Michelle Williams, and their daughter, Matilda, returned home to the Brooklyn house they once shared with Ledger. Matilda's godmother, former Dawson's Creek costar Busy Philipps, and Williams' mother were also said to be at the house.
Sophie Ward, friend of Heath and sister to his model flame Gemma Ward, said Ledger seemed anxious over the holidays in Australia. "We went to the movies and just did normal stuff ... but he was a bit edgy. He couldn't really relax," said Ward, adding, "he said he was going to London but was quite upset because he couldn't see his daughter as much as he'd like to. He was traveling so much and I think he was just frustrated with it all."
Four Feathers director and Ledger friend Shekhar Kapur says he spoke to the actor the night before he died. "He made me promise that I would call him in the morning and wake him up."
The notoriously unlucky director Terry Gilliam's Imaginarium of Doctor Panassus, in which Ledger was starring, has been shut down.
The UK Daily Mail reports that Ledger allegedly checked himself into a confidential rehab facility early last year to deal with a heroin problem, while the UK Sun has Naomi Campbell's former assistant saying she saw Heath "bingeing on cocaine and ecstasy" when she worked for Campbell from 2001 to 2004.
