Call it a case of the red carpet blahs, or just a slow news month. Every time Sarah Jessica Parker does the press line at an event there's invariably some newly minted stringer around asking her about the possibility of a Sex and the City movie, and every time she so much as says it might happen (if hell freezes over) the press starts foaming at the mouth in anticipation of all the stilettos and cosmo-tinis.

Those afraid to let go of the late '90s have been getting their panties in bunches ever since SJP trilled to Entertainment Tonight last week that she was "hopeful and very excited" about a movie deal finally taking place.

But her costars seem less sure that the earth-shattering cinematic event will ever get off the ground. After telling Brit chat queen Graham Norton that talks were in a holding pattern on the film, Kim Catrall admitted she hadn't seen a script for the film, adding for emphasis: "I don't even know if it is going ahead."

Lest anyone chalk that up to sour grapes, Cynthia Nixon was similarly under-enthused as she told New York Post gossip Cindy Adams yesterday, "Look, I don't know about any starting date. Not that I'm just saying this or I'm the only one without a starting date. The fact is, nobody even knows if it's a 100 percent done deal. We're all talking about it. Everyone thinks it's set, but the fact is nothing's signed. There's still problems that need ironing out."

Seems like SJP may have to hurry up and start auditioning for three spry new backup dancers if she wants to get a film in the can before it turns into Mr. Big and the Golden Girls.
