FACE OF REMORSE Imus
As nearly every media outlet has gone to great lengths to report, both MSNBC and CBS Radio have suspended talk-show host Don Imus for referring to the Rutgers women's basketball squad as a bunch of "nappy-headed hos." Did the punishment fit the crime? Below, a rundown of how other loud-mouthed idiots, past and present, have dealt with on-air snafus.

Doug "The Greaseman" Tracht
Crime: In 1985, during an on-air bit about Martin Luther King Day, Tracht remarked that "they should shoot four more of them and give us a whole week off." Later, in 1999, after the lynching of James Beard, Tracht responded to a Lauryn Hill song by declaring, "and they wonder why we drag them behind trucks."
Apology: In a faxed letter to the Washington Post, Tracht wrote, "In the course of my show, split-second judgment is made over ad-libs. This remark was a grave error in my judgment."
Punishment: Kicked off the air, though he can currently be heard in D.C.

Shock radio duo Opie and Anthony
Crime: Convinced two listeners to have sex in St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York as part of an on-air stunt.
Apology: "You know who I'd apologize to? Our listeners—because I think we [Infinity] took away a really good show."
Punishment: Opie and Anthony were booted off the air; Infinity, their carrier, was fined $357,000. One of the public fornicators died of a heart attack before sentencing.

Former Miami Heat point guard Tim Hardaway
Crime: Announced on a national radio program, "I hate gay people ... [gays] shouldn't be in the world or in the United States."
Apology: "I am committed to examining my feelings and will recognize, appreciate, and respect the differences among people in our society."
Punishment: Barred from appearing at the NBA All-Star game; dropped as spokesman of BaldGuyz, a NJ-based grooming company that caters to bald men. (A statement released by the company noted that, "BaldGuyz, like baldness, does not discriminate based on lifestyle choice, color, education, financial resources, religion, physical capabilities, or in any other way.")

R&B has-been Shaggy
Crime: Boasted on-air about his repeated creeping with the girl next door without the express written or verbal consent of his girlfriend.
Apology: "It wasn't me."
Punishment: Guilty conscience.
