Julia Roberts' Digital Dentistry

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE? Roberts, Clooney
You'd think a star as big as Julia Roberts could afford some porcelain crowns.

The new issues of People and Us Weekly both feature a photo of Roberts and George Clooney mugging at the American Cinematheque Award ceremony honoring the latter. In the original, unretouched version of the photo, Roberts' mouth is wide open in an apparent guffaw, and three dark fillings are clearly visible.

Both People and Us, however, altered the image to make her teeth uniformly white. Spokespersons for the magazines could not immediately say why they had added the virtual veneers, and Roberts' rep was unavailable for comment.

Of course, celebrity magazines have long been happy to Photoshop out the cellulite and blemishes of the biggest stars—while drawing hot-pink circles around those same defects when they appear on lesser beings.

[Incriminating close-ups after the jump!]

UPDATE: A People spokesperson responds: "I guess someone on staff didn't want readers to think Julia had too much candy as a child. She has a beautiful smile and mouth and we shouldn't have tinkered with it."
