Olivia Newton-John still wonders what happened to her former partner, Patrick McDermott, who went missing under mysterious circumstances in 2005.

In an exclusive interview on 60 Minutes, the singer and actress, 67, revealed new details of the tragic events 10 years prior.

"Yeah it was very hard. He was lost at sea and nobody really knows what happened," she told interviewer Karl Stefanovic. "It's human to wonder. But you know. . .those are the things in life you have to accept and let go."

The couple had been dating for 9 years when McDermott vanished off the coast of California in June of 2005 .

An official U.S. Coast Guard report suggested he had drowned. As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Newton-John made three statements to Coast Guard special agents probing the case.

But soon after, private detectives claimed that McDermott had faked his own death to avoid debt and allow his son to collect on a $100,000 life insurance policy.

Now, according to an eyewitness, the former Hollywood cameraman is living off the coasts of Mexico and South America, protected by a wealthy Mexican family.

"Yes, I saw him," marina officer Emilio Oyarzabal Garcia told New Idea in a recent issue. "He walked past my office window. He has shorter, darker hair now."

The publication also reported that McDermott is currently working on a luxury boat for the well-to-do family.

"He's been able to hide for so long because there are many people willing to protect him,' a source told New Idea. "Lots of Americans come down here to hide, and it doesn't take long for you to meet the right people who are willing to help you for a price. The U.S. dollar goes a lot further here."
