Horror Director George A. Romero Dead at 77

Famed horror director George A. Romero has died.

The famous filmmaker created Night of the Living Dead and was surrounded by his family when he passed away aged 77 from lung cancer.

The director's family played the score to his favorite film The Quiet Man in his final hours, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Romero is regarded as a pioneer of the horror genre with Night of the Living Dead spawning sequels like Day of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead.

His work inspired many of the more modern day film directors like Wes Craven and John Carpenter.

Arrangements for his funeral will be released later this week.
