Bill Maher Apologizes After His Shocking 'N' Word Scandal

Kathy Griffin is not the only progressive comedian in hot water this week.

On Saturday, Bill Maher finally apologized for using a racial slur on his show Real Time on Friday night.

Maher, who called himself a "house n*****" on his TV show, explained in a statement that he got caught up in the "banter of a live moment."

The shocking incident unfolded during Maher's interview with Republican Senator Ben Sasse on his live HBO show "Real Time' on Friday night.

As the New York Times reported, shortly after 10 p.m. on Friday, host Maher, 61, spoke to Sasse on his show about the boundaries between adolescence and maturity, and how adults in California still dress up for Halloween.

When Sasse said this did not happen in his state, Maher said, "I've got to get to Nebraska more."

Sasse replied, "You're welcome. We'd love to have you work in the fields with us."

Maher scoffed, "Work in the fields? Senator, I'm a house n*****. No, it's a joke."

After the audience groaned, Maher and Sasse moved to other topics.

But after huge backlash, Maher, the former host of Politically Incorrect, released a statement on Saturday which said, "Friday nights are always my worst night of sleep because I'm up reflecting on the things I should or shouldn't have said on my live show. Last night was a particularly long night as I regret the word I used in the banter of a live moment. The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry."

HBO issued its own statement on Saturday, saying, "Bill Maher's comment last night was completely inexcusable and tasteless. We are removing his deeply offensive comment from any subsequent airings of the show."

As RadarOnline.com has reported, Maher is well known for his battles with conservatives, including Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

But now, he's offended everybody!
