Lindsay Lohan’s controversial new interview, in which she downplays her drug use, bashes her father, and says her stints in rehab are “pointless,” was orchestrated by her mother, Michael Lohan told RadarOnline.com exclusively.

Even as Lindsay is ensconced in rehab at the Betty Ford center, the controversy continues, with her newly revealed statements sparking a harsh response.

“It was more like an interview with Dina. She (Lindsay) didn’t mean any of it.  I think by now we all know that Dina puts her and my other kids up to it,” Michael told RadarOnline.com about Lindsay’s in-depth chat with Piers Morgan, which was published Sunday in the MailOnline.

“It was like walking on eggshells when my father was around,” Lindsay said about the early part of her life, describing it as “chaotic.”

But she does admit that her father is “charming” and adds, “that’s what’s scary about him.”

Lindsay’s had some harsh words for Michael, saying: “He won’t change. I just think there comes a point where you just kind of have to accept what it is. Whenever I do try to bring him back into my life, he creates chaos for me and uses it to his advantage. He’s been really good and then really crazy my whole life.”

Michael told RadarOnline.com that while the words came out of Lindsay’s mouth, it was Dina who was feeding her the lines. He said that was especially true about one controversial incident Lindsay discussed -- a time when she accused her mother of doing cocaine and taking $40,000 from her.

Lindsay recounted that incident this way in the new interview: “One thing that upset me the most when it happened was when he (Michael) recorded me telling him about an argument I had with Mum (sic).

“Mum (sic) and I never argued – this was only the second time we’d ever had a real fight. And then he recorded me talking about it, and gave it to the media. And it created such an untrue, hurtful picture of my relationship with my mother. It broke my heart. Mum tried so hard to keep things civil with my dad, but nothing worked.”

That, says Michael, proves his point about Dina’s undue influence over their daughter.

“Just like when they (Lindsay and Dina) were in the limo together and Lindsay accused Dina of doing cocaine, drinking, not letting her out of the limo and stealing $40,000 from Lindsay,” Michael told RadarOnline.com about the incident.

“Then (name redacted) had the nerve to get Lindsay to go public and say that she lied, when it was all on tape. Dina is a sick woman and I feel sorry for her. She continues to do this” and :just create more chaos in their  (the kids’) lives.

“Not only is she the root of all the problems but she is the root of all evil in our family,” Michael says of his ex, adding that he holds Lindsay blameless.

“ I don't hold it against Lindsay at all. It’s sad that Dina would continue to put our children especially Lindsay up to this,” he told RadarOnline.com.

“I truly believe Dina put Lindsay up to this thing she said in the interview in order to save face for all the things people have seen.”

Lindsay told Morgan that Michael was never violent toward her but her younger siblings were terrified of him. She also discussed catching her father cheating on Dina, and said his behavior was depressing.

“I was being pulled in different directions all the time and never had time to just sit and relax,” she said of her home life.

Lindsay described how her life started unraveling at age 20 and she was told to go back to New York from L.A. but didn’t want to because Michael was in New York. Asked directly if she blames her father for her problems, Lindsay answered: “No, I don’t blame anyone but myself. I just didn’t want him in my life at that point because he was causing chaos. He wasn’t being a father.”

Michael says that’s simply not true.

“Anyone in Cold Spring Harbor, where my kids grow up the majority of their life, will tell you that I was a great father,” he told RadarOnline.com. “I coached my boys in all their sports and treated them with love and guidance.”

Lindsay’s comments about her drug use and stints in rehabs will certainly draw some skepticism.

“I’ve never been a junkie, and never will be. I just like going out late to clubs with friends and listening to music,” she said.

“Everyone thinks I’m this crazy drug addict who shows up late to everything and behaves so badly. But I’m not. I’m bad with timing.”

She also said, “Constantly sending me to rehab is pointless.”

Michael, who freely admits he previously used drugs, told RadarOnline.com that Lindsay doesn’t have to detail her problems for the public.

“All I'll say about Lindsay statements about her own drug use is the first step in getting better is …being honest.

“Lindsay doesn't have to tell the public what are problems or addictions are, as long as she admitted it (to herself). Lindsay knows and God knows and that's all that matters.”
